Aldridge sawmill

Aldridge sawmill was first constructed in 1905. The original mill was made of wood and was carried in by ox carts through the dense woods of east Texas. By 1911 the mill started to include houses, hotels, bars and even a brothel. In total there were 79 buildings around the mill, although today only 4 of these still stand. There was even at one point a railroad through here but we did not see this when we were visiting. The mill was finally abandoned in 1927 where it still decays in the forest today. To get there Andrew and I had to go 6 miles deep in to the forest and hike an additional mile and a half to get to the spot, even though this location is far from the beaten path (or any path really) the place had been completely vandalized by the local youth of the town, beer bottles and condom wrappers were a common find while we were here.
